Mo Salah ditches ‘Krusty the Clown’ hair as followers have principle about Liverpool ace

Mohamed Salah is sporting a very different look following the end of the season – and Liverpool fans have joked they know why.

The Egyptian goal machine has become an icon since he moved to Anfield from Roma in 2017, and his distinctive haircut is immediately recognisable. But the 31-year-old has spent the first week of the summer getting his trademark afro hair trimmed.

Liverpool are set for a huge summer of change with Arne Slot replacing legendary boss Jurgen Klopp. The German coach who won the Premier League and Champions League has managed his final game in charge of the Reds, but his departure is seemingly not the only major change on Merseyside, reports The Mirror.

Reacting to a photo posted by Salah on Instagram, fans delivered a mixed view on the new look, but many fans joked the global superstar must have big plans this summer. One Liverpool fan said: “I reckon Salah is getting a hair transplant with the 6 weeks off. His Afro was turning into Krusty the Clown with the corners going.”

“Lmao he must’ve got sick of the Krusty the clown comparisons,” said another Reds supporter, with even a fan of rivals Manchester United chipping in: “It suits him ngl that Krusty the Clown hairline wasn’t it.”

Another fan posting on X, formerly Twitter, said: “I reckon Salah’s getting a hair transplant in the time off and he’s gonna come back looking like Prime Mick Foley.” A fifth X user asked: “If Salah comes back with a hair transplant in August, do the commentators mention it or is it taboo?” And a sixth posed the question: “What stops hair transplant Mo Salah from bagging 40 goals next season?”

Other fans of the Premier League giants were convinced bald-headed boss Slot had influenced Salah’s new look. “Arne Slot influence is actually crazy,” one user replied, with a second adding: “You’re fully committed to the Arne Slot era with this trim,” and another commenting: “Nooooo the legendary haircut is gone.”

Meanwhile, another Liverpool fan thought the shorter hair could help the Egyptian king when he’s running down the wing. They asked: “Is this some plan to gain an extra yard of pace by decreasing your air resistance or something?”

Salah’s future has been left uncertain in recent months following the departure of Klopp. The ex-Roma and Chelsea winger has one year left on his contract and has been linked with a move away.

Former Liverpool defender Vladimir Smicer believes Salah should be given a choice about his future, considering his goal record and what he has achieved on Merseyside. Salah scored 25 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions this season to take tally up over 200 in a Liverpool shirt.

Smicer told OLBG: “It’s a very tough situation with Mohamed Salah, he may be getting older but he’s still Liverpool’s best striker, scoring so many goals and breaking records. Of course the new manager is coming in and it will be a tough decision, but he deserves so much respect for what he has done for Liverpool. I would let him decide what he wants to do this summer. Never force him out of Anfield.”

“He’s got one more year on his contract so it’s about seeing what his plans are, physically he looks like he could pay for another three or four years. Just look at Ronaldo, he’s still playing at 39 and hasn’t lost his legs. Salah could do the same.”
