Man Utd and Man City followers could each want ‘blues’ to get it up after FA Cup ultimate

Mancunians have long debated whether their city is red or blue – and will again when the FA Cup final becomes a Manchester derby for the day.

But doctors have predicted both Manchester United and Manchester City‘s fans may need to rely on the ‘blues’ to take it home, regardless of which team they want to lift the famous old trophy at Wembley. That’s because a study has revealed a potential consequence of match festivities – an increase in Erectile Dysfunction (ED) linked to alcohol consumption.

Doctor Maryam Hasan at MedExpress highlighted the importance of awareness and discusses treatment options for this common issue ahead of the match. Issues around erectile dysfunction will be prevalent, as nearly nine in 10 – 87% – of football fans admit drinking more alcohol when a live game is on.

With medical studies confirming the link between alcohol consumption and erectile dysfunction, the potential for fans experiencing ED symptoms during the FA Cup Final is set to increase, meaning even Manchester United fans might require the blue pill this weekend.

Doctor Hasan said: “Excess alcohol consumption can impact male sexual function in several ways. Firstly, alcohol impairs our central nervous system, which can delay signals between the brain and penis, causing erectile dysfunction (ED).

“Additionally, alcohol’s diuretic effect causes increased urination, resulting in dehydration and reduced blood flow, including to the penis. This dehydration can also elevate your levels of angiotensin, a hormone associated with ED.”

In the past month, there were more than 822,000 Google searches for ‘Viagra’, the most popular Erectile Dysfunction (ED) treatment. This highlights just how common ED is and how it is nothing to be ashamed of or have a stigma attached to.

“The good news for football fans is that erectile dysfunction (ED) is very common and very treatable, and there are a range of effective solutions available, ensuring that celebrations don’t have to end on a disappointing note,” Dr Hasan continued.

The doctor said: “PDE5 inhibitors, such as Viagra and Cialis, are commonly used to treat ED. They work by increasing blood flow to the penis, helping you perform in the bedroom. For those experiencing ED on occasion, Viagra might be a suitable option. Additionally, there is on-demand Cialis, which can be used in the same context. Generic versions, Sildenafil (Viagra) and Tadalafil (Cialis) are equally as effective and available at a lower cost.”
