Met Office climate maps present precise time-frame thunderstorms will batter UK

The Met Office has revealed the exact moment it expects thunderstorm to rain down on the UK.

The weather agency has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms for a great swathe of the UK over the bank holiday weekend.

The Northwest, Yorkshire and Humber and the West Midlands are expected to be battered by thunderstorms, as is parts of the South East and Wales.

Bank holiday plans are expected to be a wash out as south as Cambridge and north as the towns of Sedbergh, Hawes and Leyburn.

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for a large patch of Britain for bank holiday Sunday

According to the Met Office, many Brits will wake on Sunday, March 26 to wet and drizzly conditions, with storms underway in the early morning around Pembroke and Swindon.

By mid-day, thunderstorms are predicted to pelt down in the UK, with the Manchester, Norwich, Sheffield and Birmingham areas due to cop a downfall. Wales around Pembroke, Swansea and Caernarfon, Dorset and South Devon also expected to be hit by storms.

These storms will move north, into York, Leeds and Hull by around 2pm.

It’s expected storms will ease off by early evening, with a few persistent storms lingering around Nottingham and Derby, and Northampton until 5pm.

By 7pm the Met Office predicts dry conditions will return to the UK.

The Met Office warned that “slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms may cause flooding and disruption in places”.

This follows a “mixed bag” of weather predicted for the bank holiday weekend, with sunshine, showers, and stretches of rain also on the cards.

Saturday will have the best weather across the three days, with conditions expected to remain dry across the UK and temperatures rising to the low 20s in parts of the south east.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Harris warned that wet conditions and Sunday’s storms could lead to roads being temporarily flooded in some parts of the UK.

Better conditions return on bank holiday Monday, which is expected to be “brighter, cooler and breezier” with scattered showers for England and Wales, followed by dryer conditions.
