UK braced for thunderstorms earlier than ‘very excessive’ heatwave ‘magically’ seems

The Met Office has issued a warning over possible flooding due to thunderstorms, with the topsy turvey weather ‘magically’ producing ‘very extreme’ heat soon after.

Weather experts said this morning (Monday, May 27) that slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms may cause flooding and disruption in places, with a yellow thunderstorm warning in place over much of north and eastern Scotland.

The organisation said that both flooding and lightning strikes could wreak havoc with transport and even warned that power cuts are a very real possibility.

“There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds,” the website stated.

It added that there is “a small chance” of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life.

And it comes as Exacta Weather stated that high pressure and warm to hot conditions “have now magically appeared on cue for later this week (from around Friday)!”

They said that their long term forcast suggests “notable heat” from Thursday or Friday this week, into early June.

“Next week is therefore highly likely to see high pressure dominating, and by the mid-to-end part of the working week, we are now more likely to see some very warm to hot temperatures developing for many parts of the UK and Ireland,” Exacta said in a Facebook post this morning.

Exacta referenced a Mirror article from May 17 that stated that weather maps showed that a 400-mile mini-heatwave will roast parts of the UK over the next few days.

James Madden, at Exacta Weather, said at the time: “Additionally, there are also some very extreme runs for heat coming through for this final third of this month and into early June, and this particular period and weather scenario for a heatwave is something we have been covering for these exact dates over the past several months in our spring forecast and over the past several weeks in our summer forecast for around early June.”
