‘I’m 65 and wild – I nonetheless go clubbing and love dancing to drum and bass’

Age is just a number – and one sassy gran is proving it with her wild dance moves.

Remeaise Irish-Downes, 65, went from being a retired granny to a TikTok sensation, leaving people gobsmacked with her groovy antics. The Dunstable-based diva has been living it up, saying she’s “just living her best life”.

It all started when she rocked up at the London Marathon in a fierce leopard print leotard and fur coat, megaphone and boom box in tow. She decided to give runners the boost they needed with some serious jams.

Remeaise was spotted dancing to “Pump up the Jam'” – a tune that takes her back to her aerobics class heyday. The crowd couldn’t get enough, with people cheering, laughing and egging her on as she shimmied and shook.

Now, her TikTok vids have clocked over a whopping quarter of a million views, with people raving about her “fabulous energy”, and dubbing her the “best cheerleader ever”. We absolutely love her vibe!

In an exclusive chat, Remeaise said: “I grew up listening to Drum n Bass so I’ve loved music for as long as I can remember. I used to have Pump up the Jam on in my aerobics class back in the day!

“When my jam is on I just can’t stand still – I can’t help but get up and dance to it, and I think as I’ve got older I’ve grown in confidence, and just love to get out there and have a good time.

“I love bright colours, love having a good time and just living my best life. I was at Luton Carnival yesterday dancing for the whole day!

“My son designs the costumes and it’s such an amazing day. This year was the first year we went green as well, setting the bar high in a little town. It tipped it down and we all got soaked, but I just carried on dancing until the rain stopped.”

When asked about her social media fame, Remeaise confessed she didn’t anticipate such a massive response. People often tell her she’s “amazing”, but she insists she’s just enjoying herself.

She further explained that while people tend to slow down as they age, she feels like she’s “speeding up”, and experiencing things she could never have imagined.

The gran recently appeared in a music video

“When I’m out and dancing people just gravitate towards me which I love,” she added. “That’s really how Jam Shed spotted me and recruited me for their Pump up the Jam music video. I join in with street dancers.

“I still go clubbing. I actually went clubbing before the London Marathon. I just want to show people it doesn’t matter where you are or what your age – you can wear what you want, be who you want and get out there and have a great time. Life is for living!

“There are no age barriers to living your best life. We only have one life so let’s live it!!”

Spotting her performance on social media, Jam Shed wines were eager to sign her to the brand as a “perfect embodiment of their unapologetically different ethos”. Fast forward to now, and Remeaise has starred in her first music video with Jam Shed Wines and Star. One – a fusion of feel good music, extraordinary people and amazing dance moves coming together in one video.
