‘I’ve performed for Mourinho and Pochettino – Chelsea are getting higher boss’

Leicester City’s Harry Winks has hailed Enzo Maresca as the best manager he’s ever had – even outshining his time with Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino.

The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is set to make a Premier League comeback next season after bagging the Championship title with Leicester, but it looks like he’ll be doing it without Maresca, who appears to be on the brink of taking over at Chelsea, reports football.london.

Winks, 28, who’s been on fire this season under the Italian’s guidance, didn’t hold back in his praise. He told Sky Sports: “By far the best manager I’ve worked for, he’s incredible,” adding that Maresca is destined for the very top.

“He’s a great man manager, he’s tactically incredible, some of the decisions he tells us to do before the game and how you view the matches and it’s something that I’ve never experienced before in football. It’s opened my eyes a lot to football and the way it’s played, that kind of Pep Guardiola style as well, who he worked with for a very long time.

“I’m loving my football, it works perfectly for me, it’s exactly the kind of football that I want to play and I buy into and since he’s come in I’ve learned so much and will continue to do that.”

Maresca initially gained managerial experience with Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad, before a short-lived seven-month stint as Parma boss which ended in his dismissal in November 2021. He moved to Leicester last summer after a season as Guardiola’s assistant coach at City, contributing to their historic Treble victory.

Winks expressed how his perspective on football has been transformed under Maresca, stating: “It’s opened my eyes a lot to football and the way it’s played, that kind of Pep Guardiola style as well, who he worked with for a very long time.
