‘XL bully ripped leg off my cockapoo as blood gushed – I might solely scream’
A dog owner has described how her pet cockapoo needed his leg amputated after being savaged in an alleged XL bully attack.
Sue Hambley’s one-year-old pet Ralphie was left with his “leg hanging off” after being mauled by the beast that slipped its lead and muzzle in a park.
Police have not yet confirmed the breed of the other dog but the animal has been seized by officers following the “horrendous” attack near to Sue’s home in Ashford, Kent.

However, Sue and her neighbours claim the dog who left blood spattered across the road and over Sue’s clothes on Monday, May 20, was an XL bully.
The hospital worker said she was walking Ralphie past a few women and children and a dog wearing a muzzle, when the attack happened. She also said that none of the people with the dog tried to break up the fight or restrain the animal during the horrific incident.
Sue, 55, told KentOnline: “It sort of growled and barked at Ralphie, but we just took no notice, as he was on a lead.
“And then all of a sudden, it just freed itself and grabbed hold of him, dragging him into the road.
“I just started screaming and just trying to get the dog off, but it didn’t have a collar on by this time.”
Although Ralphie wasn’t able to escape the savage dog’s clutches briefly, the “thick-necked” and “gingery/tan” dog caught him again.
“He got him again, and I’m just grabbing him, screaming,” recalled Sue, adding: “It was just horrendous – I could see his little face and all the blood.”
Sue recalled Ralphie was able to free himself again, which is when she spotted his leg hanging off.
“I just scooped him up in total shock,” she said.
Ralphie was rushed to the vet for emergency surgery, where he lost his leg in a £6,000 procedure.
Sue said that her dog is “recovering well” but for her, “the trauma” doesn’t “go away”.
Police said “an investigation is currently ongoing”.
