Football followers love Olympiacos’ celebrations as flares take over Greek capital
Olympiacos fans lined the streets of Athens as fans celebrated the club’s first European title following their Europa Conference League success on Wednesday night (May 29).
The Greek giants lifted their maiden European trophy after an injury-time winner from talisman Ayoub El Kaabi was enough to see the Piraeus club beat Fiorentina. Condemning the Italians to final heartbreak for the second year running after they were beaten by West Ham in last year’s final.
Atmospheres in Greece make for ferocious encounters and the Olympiacos faithful who couldn’t get tickets for the game started their own wild celebrations on the streets of Athens after lifting the cup in the OPAP Arena, home of arch-rivals AEK Athens.

Footage posted to Twitter showed an aerial view of thousands of Olympiacos fans celebrating at full-time. Flares were lit and fireworks were set off in the background as red smoke covered large parts of the crowd from being seen.
The night sky in Athens was turned red as many jubilant fans partied into the early hours of Thursday morning.

Fans on Twitter couldn’t believe the vastness of the celebrations, one said: “Party time in Athens. Incredible.
The Conference League is great because it gives us scenes like this.” A second added: “No pyro no party,” with a third lauding: “These Olympiacos fans are amazing…”
After finishing third in the Greek Super League this season and being on their third permanent manager of the season, the club owned by Nottingham Forest boss Evangelos Marinakis turned the tide on their underwhelming season.
For manager Jose Luis Mendilibar, it’s back-to-back European trophies for him after he led Sevilla to the Europa League crown last year.
Olympiacos have now made their own little bit of history, becoming the first Greek side to win a European trophy of any sort.
