Major Kate Middleton well being replace as Trooping the Colour particulars unveiled

Kate Middleton will not be present at the rehearsal for Trooping the Colour next weekend as she continues her battle with cancer, it has been confirmed.

Traditionally, as Colonel of the Irish Guards, The Princess of Wales would have taken the salute at the Colonel’s Review, the customary rehearsal ahead of the main Trooping the Colour event, on June 8. Kate, who is expected to resume official duties only when given the green light by doctors, will instead be replaced by Lieutenant General James Bucknall, KCB, CBE.

The former Commander of the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps has attended every King‘s Birthday Parade since 2009 when he was appointed Colonel of the Coldstream Guards, and has served as a Coldstream Guards Officer for over 45 years.

Kate’s schedule has been completely cleared for this year while she undergoes preventative chemotherapy treatment after being diagnosed with the disease in February following abdominal surgery.

It’s unconfirmed whether she will attend the main Trooping event for the King’s birthday on June 15, although Palace insiders have previously suggested that the future queen may decide to attend some official royal events if she is well and able at the time.

In March, before the princess revealed her cancer diagnosis, the army had to retract a statement that Kate would be present at the Colonel’s Review on June 8, which would have been her first major official duty since undergoing abdominal surgery in January, reports the Mirror.

Tickets were being sold on the official website for the military spectacle, advertising an appearance of the Princess with a picture of her on the website – however, it was removed hours later. Several weeks later, Kate gave her emotional message to the world, when she revealed her cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Meanwhile, Buckingham Palace has confirmed that King Charles will participate in the main Trooping the Colour ceremony next month and will inspect the soldiers from a carriage.

The monarch, who has also been undergoing treatment for cancer since February, will not be riding a horse at his official birthday parade on June 15, but will instead conduct the review of troops taking part while seated in an Ascot Landau carriage with Queen Camilla.

This is keeping in line with previous Buckingham Palace guidance that the King’s return to public-facing duties will be carefully assessed for each individual engagement, with modifications made as advised by doctors to prioritise the sovereign’s ongoing recovery.
