Wrexham buddies flip Leeds followers as Reynolds’ Disney doc makes membership ‘too in style’
Two Wrexham fans have become Leeds United supporters due to Ryan Reynolds’ documentary making the Welsh club ‘too popular’.
It would appear that the Wrexham ‘fairytale’ isn’t all it’s cracked up to be with two supporters switching their allegiances from the Red Dragons after slamming co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney for the influx of match-going supporters.
The Hollywood duo took over the North Wales club in 2021 and launched the behind-the-scenes Welcome to Wrexham series which can be streamed on Disney. Despite back-to-back promotion to League One, loyal supporters are seemingly unhappy with the club’s new global reach.

Mark ‘Bob’ Williams, who cares for his blind friend Neal Tunnah, told LeedsLive they have decided to support Leeds despite him being a Wrexham supporter since he was a child. “It really is hard to get tickets for Wrexham because you’ve got all the new people who’ve now jumped onto the bandwagon,” Bob said.
“A few years ago before the takeover, we were getting two or three thousand a game, now we’re getting 11,000 to 12,000, and it’s really hard for the loyal supporters to get anything. It is a good thing but it’s also bad as they’ve got to think about the people who have supported them for 30 or 40 years. Some of them are not happy at all with it.”

Frustrated with missing out on football matches, Neal asked Bob to take him to a Leeds game this season after his passion for Leeds began in 1972 when he was taken to watch Don Revie’s First Division winning side.
Travelling from his home in Chester to Wrexham to pick his friend up before going to Leeds on a matchday, Bob continued: “Neal asked me to take him to a game. We rang them up and spoke to the disability liaison officer Nicola. We’ve managed to go to about five home games.
“It’s good football at Leeds and I’d seen them on TV, so I was glad Neal asked me to take him, to be honest. I really got into watching Leeds this season, they’re brilliant. They’ve played some good interesting football and have got some good players.”
Leeds failed to make an immediate return to the Premier League after they were beaten in the Championship play-off final by Southampton, but Bob revealed that wouldn’t stop the pair from continuing their new support for the Whites.
“I was a bit upset but I’ve had that watching Wrexham at Wembley, as well,” Bob said. “We’re going to renew our Leeds memberships and hopefully we can get out to some away games, as well.”
