England followers in a position to booze at Euro 2024 as organisers scrap alcohol ban plans

England fans travelling to watch Euro 2024 games can have no concerns over where to find a drink and the damage to their bank accounts thanks to German organisers.

Following a barren Qatar 2022 World Cup where FIFA made a U-turn on their policy just two days before the start of the tournament to ban alcohol sales at stadiums, and inflation seeing the rise of a pint soar back at home; England fans travelling to Germany have the chance to let their hair down.

That’s because Bitburger lager sold at games and in fan zones will only cost £4 – significantly cheaper than in stadiums and fan zones back in England.

England fans travelling to Germany without tickets have the chance to find sanctuary at the Three Lions’ own fan zone at Trabrennbahn racecourse in Gelsenkirchen

The venue is a short distance away from Schalke’s VELTINS-Arena where England begin the tournament against Serbia on June 16 and the same site that welcomed England supporters during the 2006 World Cup.

Beers in stadiums and fan zones will cost only £4

Meanwhile, those watching from pubs and fan zones at home could be shelling out £7-a-pint in pubs and restaurants in some venues.

However, fans heading to the Euros won’t be able to drink in their seats as most German league games allow, with the rules being tightened to fall more in line with those in force at English stadiums.

Just two beers at a time can be bought inside the stadium and fans will have to drink them before returning to their seats with no alcohol allowed in the stands.

Restriction on alcohol sales in glasses and bottles will also be enforced in a bid to quash fears of confrontation with pro-Putin “ultras” when England take on Serbia in their opening match.

Chief Police Director Peter Both confirmed to The Sun: “In contrast to the league match, we have agreed that alcoholic drinks purchased in the stadium may not be taken into the stadium.

“This means that they cannot, as is usually the case, buy two carriers of beer and then take them to their seats. They are only allowed to consume alcoholic drinks at the stands.”
