‘S***home’ Neal Maupay sticks boot into England with Euro 2024 prediction

Football star Neal Maupay has taken a pop at England and their famous “It’s Coming Home” chant as he joked that the nation’s international tournament dry spell is set to continue.

French forward Maupay, who scored just six goals last season no loan at Brentford, has courted controversy by targeting figures such as James Maddison.

Now, he’s taken a jab at the Three Lions ahead of Euro 2024, adding salt to the wounds of Gareth Southgate’s side who will be seeking to end a 58-year trophy drought.

England’s solitary tournament victory remains the iconic World Cup win back in 1966. There have been numerous close calls, including the painful Euros loss in penalties against Italy on home ground in 2021.

Neal Maupay stuck the boot into England

Adding insult to injury, it was Les Blues that extinguished England’s hopes in the last World Cup through a quarter-final defeat in Qatar. The cheeky striker is now hoping for an England versus France finale in Germany this summer just so he can revel in England’s drought being prolonged.

He light-heartedly threw shade at the English team in an interview with L’Equipe saying: “England have had that slogan ‘It’s coming home’ for so many years and I tell them that it never will. We tease each other. It’d be nice to have an England-France final. After France win, I’ll celebrate.”, reports the Mirror.

England and France could come face to face again

The feisty striker seems to relish his role as football’s provocateur. Earlier this season, he replicated Maddison’s dart throw celebration when he netted a goal.

He then took to social media to respond to the Tottenham man, boasting: “More goals and less relegations in my career than James Maddison.”

Maupay, 27, has never been capped by France’s senior side and is likely to be looking for a new club as he returns to Everton after his loan spell.

Maupay doesn’t fancy England’s chances against his home country

Footie pundit Jamie Carragher reckons England’s chances against the French are slim. Spilling the beans to the Telegraph, he said: “I don’t see how England beat France. I know it was very tight the last time we played and I always just feel they’ve got that little bit [more].”

Carragher didn’t stop there, adding: “What I would say is I think England’s best team beats France’s best team at the toss of a coin. Some of the players who can’t get in the French team are winning Champions Leagues, they’re playing for some of the biggest clubs in the world and that’s my only feeling.”
