United flop Sabitzer tackles pitch invader who threatened Champions League closing

Manchester United flop Marcel Sabitzer tackled a pitch invader who threatened the Champions League final.

Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid finally met at Wembley on Saturday evening after weeks of build up. However, as soon as the game swung into action, it was quickly halted as three pitch invaders made their way onto the field.

One of the individuals was apprehended by Sabitzer, who is now on the books of the German side. Ally McCoist, who was on co-comms for TNT Sport, joked that one of the individuals had been tackled by the United flop.

“Only tackle he’s making tonight,” one fan joked. While a second said: “Stupid thing to do, imagine he gets injured!”

“Marcel Sabitzer stopped the pitch invader before the stewards. Embarrassing,” a third fumed. And another added: “Marcel Sabitzer already getting his tackles in, just ignore the fact it’s on the general public!”

The Champions League final was briefly halted

Sabitzer was part of Erik ten Hag’s squad at the Red Devils last season, when he joined United on loan from Bayern Munich in January. And he enjoyed a so-so second half of the campaign, before a knee injury curtailed his season in May.

There had been rumours Sabitzer would swap the loan deal for a permanent one – but he ended up moving to Dortmund in the summer.

He told Dortmund’s club media upon arrival at the Bundesliga team: “I remember a lot of things from my time at Manchester United. I was very impressed by the fact of having played for a club of such stature. I had a smile every day at the thought of being there and playing.

“It’s also because I had playing time [at United] that I found my rhythm and my self-confidence. I showed good things there and that has an impact because a year and a half ago everyone doubted me.”
