Champions League remaining loser obtained so drunk he needed to name ‘emergency doctor’

Toni Kroos revealed he needed an emergency doctor after a heavy drinking session following Bayern Munich‘s heartbreaking Champions League final.

The Real Madrid legend played the full match against Chelsea in 2012 as his side suffered a gut-wrenching defeat on penalties at their home ground, the Allianz Arena. Despite Thomas Muller putting Bayern on the brink of glory, Didier Drogba’s late equaliser and decisive spot-kick clinched the trophy for the Blues.

Kroos confessed that he and his brother Felix hit the booze hard post-match to numb the pain, leading to a call with needing medical help, reports the Mirror.

Spilling the beans on the Einfach mal Luppen podcast, Kroos said: “The Champions League final against Chelsea in 2012 – that was us drinking out of frustration. We were close to needing an emergency doctor!”

The midfield maestro also shared how his missus Jessica didn’t want him to call him the doctor but having grown increasingly worried about the boozy state he was in, the German rang for an emergency doctor.

He recalled: “It was not a good thing but at least there was a reason for it. I remember that Jessi then said: ‘We can’t do that now. Imagine if it came out that I called an emergency doctor for having too much to drink!'”

Kroos, who plans to hang up his boots after Germany’s Euro 2024 run, confessed that he hit the bottle hard to numb the sting of the loss. “There was no other way [to ease the pain of defeat]. In the end I had to call the emergency doctor myself because I thought, ‘It can’t be allowed to get worse than this’.”

With his footballing career soon coming to an end, his departure from Madrid will no doubt leave a huge hole in their midfield but one they’ve certainly prepared for with the likes of Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Jude Bellingham in their ranks.
