Frank Warren trolls Hearn after 5v5 boxing outcome as Wilder KO’d by Zhang

Frank Warren couldn’t resist a cheeky dig at Eddie Hearn after his stable had a clean sweep at their 5v5 fight night showdown in Riyadh.

The boxing bigwigs each brought a squad of five fighters to the Saudi sands for an epic clash, with their boxers duking it out representing their respective promotional banners.

It was Frank’s athletes who had the last laugh, though, as they battered their way to victory in every single bout.

The highlight of the night was Zhilei Zhang and Deontay Wilder

The showstopper of the evening came from Zhilei Zhang who sent Deontay Wilder crashing to the canvas, clinching the headline fight.

Meanwhile, Hearn had to swallow a bitter pill and jet back to Blighty after the drubbing, only to find himself sat in the posh seats next to a gloating Warren, who didn’t miss the chance for a bit of banter.

Eddie took to social media to share his woes with a video captioned: “When you thought it couldn’t get any worse”.

Looking deflated, he started off: “Obviously disappointing night in Riyadh, great show but long journey home now, looking forward to a nice quiet trip…” But then the camera swung to Warren, who cheekily ribbed him with a string of gags all about the number five.

Warren quipped: “It’s a five hour delay, they reckon it’ll take five hours to get to the airport, I’m sitting in row five… anyway high five.”, reports the Mirror.

Over on the heavyweight scene, Britain’s own Daniel Dubois snatched the interim IBF heavyweight crown with a jaw-dropping eighth-round knockout of Filip Hrgovic, teeing up a potential blockbuster against Anthony Joshua in September. With AJ watching from the sidelines,

Dubois declared: “I’ve heard the next opponent will be AJ, so bring it on,” adding fuel to the fire by stating: “I’m anxious to become the best – this is my future, my time and time to come through the best.”

Warren’s Queensbury stable had a successful night with victories for Zhang and Dubois, following wins from Willy Hutchinson, captain Hamzah Sheeraz and featherweight Nick Ball.

Reflecting on the evening, Hearn stated: “Listen I’ve loved it, didn’t quite love the results. We got spanked tonight, but I loved being part of it, all the build up. I loved giving the fighters the opportunity out here.”

When asked if Wilder might retire, he added: “Look it is up to him, just not letting his hands go, kept moving to the right, walking onto the southpaw shot. Confidence is everything in this game and it doesn’t seem that he has that belief anymore. He tried his best, he talked himself into it, trained really hard, but if it is not there it is not there.”
