Mourinho’s ‘loopy’ unveiling as hundreds greet him with flares and fireworks
The Istanbul night sky was turned red as fans in their thousands waving flares welcomed Jose Mourinho to Turkey.
Mourinho, 61, has put pen-to-paper on a deal to become the new manager of Fenerbahce, after he was sacked Roma earlier this season. Mourinho was part of TNT Sports Champions League coverage on Saturday evening, and he was quizzed by host Laura Woods about the role.
And mere hours after Real Madrid were crowned Champions of Europe – Mourinho was officially unveiled by the Turkish giants. Mourinho touched down in Turkey on Sunday evening – and he was met by a all-might reception.

Videos emerged on social media of Mourinho being paraded around the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium. Thousands of flares created a red mist as Mourinho waved to his new adoring followers.
Fans had packed into the stadium to catch a glimpse of their new hero – who donned a Fenerbahce scarf as he was paraded around.

“José Mourinho went to the Fenerbahce stadium to introduce himself for 15 minutes and this is how the stadium looked. Next season is going to be fun,” one fan said. While a second replied: “Only a legend can have this effect on a Sunday afternoon in Turkey. Jose Mourinho is a movement and a way of life!”
“Jose lives for these types of moments,” a third joked. And another added: “The passion of Jose, the passion of his fans, and the passion of Fenerbache’s fans will shake Europe to its core…”
While a fifth said: “The fans know beforehand that José will make the players sweat the shirt!”
Addressing the crowd, Mourinho said: “I want to thank you for your love. Normally a coach is loved after victories. In this case I feel that I am loved before the victories. That for me is a big responsibility that I feel.
“I promise you from this moment, I belong to your family. This shirt is my skin. Football is passion, and there is no better place [than here] to feel that passion.
“Since the moment I met the president, I wanted to play for you because you are the soul of the football club. I want to be the coach of all of you.”
