England followers slammed for singing banned World War 2 track at pre-Euros pleasant
A group of England supporters have been criticised after a video surfaced showing them singing a song referencing World War 2.
The Three Lions faced Bosnia and Herzegovina in a friendly match at St James’ Park as part of their preparation for the forthcoming Euro 2024 campaign in Germany, with Gareth Southgate‘s men securing a comfortable 3-0 win. However, the victory was marred by distasteful scenes as footage emerged of fans belting out a song in the concourse of the stadium.
The FA has repeatedly warned fans that they risk bans if they are caught singing the song, with lyrics referring to Britain’s conflict with the Nazis nearly 80 years ago, at England games. The chant, about German bomber planes and how “the RAF from England shot them down”, refers to the airborne warfare with Hitler’s forces during the Battle of Britain, reports the Express.

Football fans also expressed their disgust online, with many calling the footage “embarrassing” and “pathetic”, while others highlighted how offensive it could be for Germans. One supporter said: “Please don’t be singing this in Germany this summer.”
Another added: “It’s embarrassing these days. Yes OK have national pride but leave the WWII references behind, where they belong. In the bin.” Meanwhile, another poster said: “Oh dear. And English fans wonder why everyone hates them.”

The FA previously imposed bans on a section of the England Supporters Travel Club in March 2017, for “unacceptable behaviour” after the singing of the controversial song during a friendly with Germany in Dortmund.
An FA statement, issued at the time, said: “We have been working closely with the relevant authorities to identify a number of individuals, some of whom have already been suspended from the England Supporters Travel Club and will now be pursued by the UK Football Policing Unit and potentially be subject to a Football Banning Order.
“To date, 34 members have been investigated for their behaviour by The FA, some of whom have now been banned from the membership. Investigations are still ongoing which may result in further sanctions.
“As you will be aware, The FA has consistently urged fans to follow England in a positive way and we will continue to work hard to try to ensure a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for all supporters.”
It was business as usual for England against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday night, after a routine 3-0 victory over the visitors. Southgate’s side cruised to a comfortable victory thanks to goals from Cole Palmer, Trent Alexander-Arnold and captain Harry Kane.
