Plane passengers informed to brace earlier than emergency touchdown – together with James Corden

Passengers on board a flight heading to London from the Algarve prepared for the worst as they were told to brace for an emergency landing — including James Corden.

The Gavin & Stacy star was seen venting his frustration at staff following the turbulent BA flight on Sunday, June 2, which saw the plane make an unplanned pitstop in Lisbon.

Passenger Vanessa, who was travelling with her husband and her mother, recalled that people were told to “gather possessions as best you can, take off your shoes, and when you’re told by the airplane staff, please adopt the brace position and when we land if you’re able, please find your nearest emergency exit and vacate the plane”, following a wing malfunction.

She added: “Basically, what had happened was the flaps on the airplane wing which are supposed to go down when you are in the air won’t go down, which meant that they wouldn’t be able to raise them on landing.”

Passengers spent three hours on the tarmac in Lisbon after the plane failed to reach altitude after taking off from Faro and circled for 45 minutes before announcing the emergency landing, reports MailOnline.

Vanessa confirmed she saw Corden argue with a staff member once everyone had disembarked, because they were herded into the wrong queue.

Vanessa told Metro: “So then BA finally let us off the plane. We’re in the terminal and there was not a member of BA staff to be found. And they put us in immigration queues. And there was just no one there telling us what was going on.

“I watched him fist bump the pilot as he got off the plane, he said, ‘Thank you very much.’”

Passengers, inducing Corden were put on a fight to London the following morning, where the star posed for selfies and joked about the Gavin and Stacy Christmas special ending, Vanessa said.

She said: “He walked up and down the aisles talking to people, and let everybody take a selfie with him.

The emergency landing was due to a technical difficulty with the plane’s wing

“I made a joke and went, ‘Oh if we’re all going to die. You could tell us how does the Gavin & Stacey Christmas special end?’ and he went ‘Do you really want to know?’ and I went ‘Yeah.’ He went, ‘I can’t tell you.’

“Then he said, ‘but do you want to know what happened on the fishing trip?’ and I was like ‘Yes! I do!’ and he was like, ‘I can’t tell you that either.’”

British Airways has been contacted for comment.
