Rishi Sunak noticed carrying £1,460 value of luxurious baggage to election TV debate
Rishi Sunak showed off another piece from his luxury luggage collection as he arrived in Manchester for tonight’s TV debate.
Last week the Mirror spotted him arriving in Penzance, one of the poorest areas of the country, carrying a £750 Tumi backpack – with his initials monogrammed on one side.
And today he was snapped walking through Manchester Piccadilly station carrying a black holdall. It is another costly Tumi bag – this time an Alpha 3 Garment Carrier, which retails for £710. It wasn’t clear from photographs of the item whether it too is monogrammed with his initials.
Mr Sunak was also wearing the high-end backpack on his back, putting the total value of the bags he was carrying at £1,450. Manufacturer Tumi describe the opulent tri-fold as “A must-have for the business traveler.”

It can carry up to two suits and still have room for toiletries. The Alpha 3 Collection is described as “iconic business and travel pieces that bring together innovative design, superior performance, and best in class functionality.” They’re made from “ultra-durable ballistic nylon.”
Mr Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty are the richest inhabitants of Downing Street in history. Their combined £651million fortune put them above the King on the list of the wealthiest people in the country. It is driven largely by Ms Murty’s stake in Infosys. an Indian IT company her father founded.
Earlier this month, Mr Sunak issued a “fulsome apology” to the Adidas Samba community after he was mocked for posting a photo of himself wearing the trainers. The PM was ridiculed for wearing them with suit trousers and a white shirt.
The magazine Dazed wrote: “Rishi has killed Sambas”, while GQ asked: “Can Rishi Sunak leave the Adidas Samba alone, please?”
Asked about “destroying the fashion icon” on LBC, Mr Sunak said: “Well, I issue a fulsome apology to the Samba community. But in my defence I would say I have been wearing Adidas and Sambas and others, in fact, for many, many years. It’s the first pair my brother got for me many, many years ago. [I got] my first pair of fun Adidas trainers as a Christmas present and I haven’t looked back since so I’ve been a long-time devotee.”
