Wayne Rooney has revealed that Chelsea‘s masseur used to tuck Frank Lampard and John Terry into bed on England duty.
The three stars made a combined 304 appearances for the Three Lions and were part of the ‘Golden Generation’ of the 2000s.
And Rooney has spilled the beans on the comforts that Lampard and Terry enjoyed while away with England – namely the secrets of their late-night massage sessions.
Chelsea’s Billy McCullogh, known as Bill Blood by the players, was popular with the squad and they persuaded Steve McLaren to bring him into his backroom team when Terry was made captain.
‘I used to get one [massage] at 9pm, but the last ones after me were always JT [John Terry] and Lamps [Frank Lampard],’ Rooney told the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet.

Billy McCulloch was wildly popular with the squad and players requested for him to be hired
‘Bill, who was the Chelsea masseur, was there and he’d massage them, then they’d go into bed and get their feet out under the bed, and he’d massage them until they fell asleep.
‘Massage their feet until they fell asleep then he tucked them in. I swear.’
Lampard credited McCulloch with keeping him fit during his once record-breaking run of consecutive Premier League appearances, which reached 164.
McCulloch was also known as a joker and has gone viral for a joke he told about Petr Cech.
He was particularly popular among the Chelsea contingent containing Lampard, Terry, Joe Cole, Wayne Bridge, Ashley Cole, and Shaun Wright-Phillips
He was a member of the England camp until the FA sacked him following the failure to qualify for Euro 2008.
A notorious character, McCulloch was filmed by Ben Chilwell last August in a play fight with Armando Broja.
Broja punched the Chelsea veteran in the arm but received a blow in return and fell on to one of the benches in laughter.

The legendary physio also once had a fake boxing contest wth Diego Costa – though that one didn’t go his way.
Terry shared the throwback video in 2021 writing: ‘Diego Costa Vs Billy (AKA) Rocky, pre-season 2014/15. After this I knew we would win the league. What a legend. I’m crying watching this.’
After sizing each other up in the canteen, Costa taunted McCulloch and knocked him down with a few shots.
After getting up, he tried to stay on his feet but went to ground again with the squad in fits of laughter.
Terry said about him: ‘Genuinely a top guy. I loved him because he gave everything, every single day for our club. He cared and was an unbelievable player.’
