UK heatwave might plummet to freezing temperatures in days

The UK is bracing for a cold snap as temperatures are expected to drop drastically. Weather maps from WXCharts.com reveal that the mercury will fall across the country, dashing hopes of sustained warmer weather.

Scotland is set to bear the brunt of the chill, with temperatures in Glenelg predicted to hit a low of 0C on Wednesday, June 5. Meanwhile central areas like Stirling will struggle to rise above 2C or 3C, and it’s a similar story in the Yorkshire Dales.

London isn’t escaping the cold either, with forecasts predicting around 5C. However, the south coast of England can expect slightly milder conditions, with a high of 13C off the Isle of Wight.

Commenting on the chilly forecast, Jim Dale, founder and senior meteorological consultant at British Weather Services, concurred with the weather service’s prediction, stating: “Cold it will be! ” He added that Scotland would find itself in unusually chilly air by Wednesday due to the southward shift of the polar front.

The Met Office has also issued its predictions for Wednesday through Friday, warning of “chilly nights” and a mix of sunshine and showers across the north of the UK, while the south can expect drier conditions with some risk of showers. The forecast noted: “Feeling rather cool, with some chilly nights. Breezy”, reports the Express.

Further out, the forecast hints at a generally cooler climate from Saturday, June 8 until Monday, June 17. It appears to be “rather cool at the start of the period.”

It details: “Blustery showers continuing across the north of the country over the weekend, most frequent in the northwest, but may tend to ease compared to preceding days. Showers possible across southern areas but often dry with variable cloud and sunny spells.”

It suggests that the north will continue to see changeable weather through the following week and into mid-June with showers or longer spells of rain at times, along with some drier moments.

“While showers remain possible in the south, there should continue to be a good deal of dry weather here. Small chance of a more broadly settled spell developing for a time next week.”

It concludes by noting: “Rather cool at the start of the period, temperatures probably slowly recovering back to around average with an increasing chance of some warmer spells, especially across the south.”
