Ex-world champion darts participant’s throw is so dangerous it fully misses the board

Martin Adams was left red-faced in this week’s Modus Super Series matchup with Chris Gilliland when a poor throw failed to make it anywhere near the board.

Adams lost the match 4-2, and it was something that happened in the final leg that got darts fans talking. With Adams 3-2 down in the best of seven clash, the three-time BDO champion from Sutton was looking to bolster his score of 80 further, when his third dart appeared to slip out of his hand as he threw it.

You could hear the dart thud on the ground a stone’s throw from Adams, who looked down while throwing his hands in the air in frustration at his effort. The MC struggled to hold in his laughter at the comical moment, while the commentator said: “Whoops!” before adding: “That was the wrong-un.”

And viewers watching from home were equally amused by the effort, quickly taking to social media to share their thoughts. One wrote: “Don’t worry lads. There is hope,” while a second added: “Standard Thursday league that!” while tagging a mate.

A third added: “Happened to me in a league game but I was shaking like a leaf!” while a fourth went on: “Mind the skirting board,” with a string of laughing emojis.

It was all anyone could talk about on social media

Adams would end up losing the Group A week one game to Gilliland 4-2. The 68-year-old is still going strong, even at the veteran stage, having starred on the BDO for over 30 years from 1988 until 2020.

He won his maiden BDO title in 2007 after beating Phill Nixon 7-6 in a tense final, finally capturing the Lakeside crown. He would go on to double down with a victory over Dave Chisnall in 2010, before defending in 2011 with a victory over Dean Winstanley.

He also has three Winmau World Masters championships to his name, plus four Dutch Open titles.
