Lib Dem chief takes to the drums to belt out We Will Rock You

Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey belted out We Will Rock You on drums made from an exercise ball as part of his latest bizarre photo-op.

Sir Ed took part in a DrumFit class at Abbotswood Court Care Village in Romsey, Hampshire as part of the Liberal Democrats campaign tour ahead of the General Election.

In footage, Sir Ed can be seen drumming along to the Queen hit while singing, ‘We will, we will rock you!’ with a huge smile on his face.

Although he keeps the rhythm for the most part, there is a moment where he seems to get confused about whether to hit the ball or slap his sticks together.

Meanwhile, one of his drumming partners to the right side of him in the video looks less than impressive and doesn’t crack a smile even once.

But other members of the drum ensemble seem much more happy with some whooping and cheering.

This isn’t the first time that the Lib Dem leader was snapped in a quirky photo-op.

On May 30, he hurtled himself down a giant slip ‘n slide in an inflatable ring in From, Somerset.

Donning a grey rash vest and a pair of trunks, he climbed into a rubber ring at the summit of the more than 300ft tall yellow and green water slide, before hurtling himself down at great speed.

The election stunt was to promote the Lib Dem’s new policy on child mental health.

It came just a day after the Lib Dem leader was pictured with his legs spread wide open as he rode a bike during a visit to Knighton in Wales while on the campaign trail.

The day before that he was snapped falling off a paddleboard on Lake Windermere. This time the stunt was aimed to put pressure on the Tories over the UK’s sewage crisis.

Earlier this year, Sir Davey also lived up to his usual antics by delivering a speech in front of a giant blue hour glass with the words ‘Time’s Running Out Rishi!’.

The visual stunt was aimed to kick forward the Liberal Democrats’ local election campaign.

Back in March last year, Davey again flamboyantly launched the Liberal Democrats’ local election campaign by driving a tractor through a stack of blue-coloured hay bales in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire.

It symbolised the party’s desire to knock down the ‘blue wall’ of Conservative constituencies in the Home Counties.

He said: ‘People are having to wait hours for an ambulance, weeks for a GP appointment or months for urgent cancer treatment as the NHS crisis spirals out of control.

‘But the Conservatives have failed to deliver the new hospitals they promised and are breaking their pledge to recruit more GPs. It shows this Conservative government is out of touch, out of ideas and out of excuses.’

The Lib Dem leader has become accustomed with blunt metaphor photoshoots, including when he smashed a wall of blue bricks with a hammer after their victory in the Chesham and Amersham by-election last year.
