UK set to sizzle in bumper Euros heatwave as beer backyard warning issued

Bumper temperatures are set to blast British beer gardens for the Euros this month – but the nation has been issued a stern warning.

Analysis of weather data over the last five years to try and determine when the UK is normally roasted with a heatwave has discovered that this summer’s tournament is falling at the ideal time.

Based on historical temperatures, Parkdean Resorts have claimed that the temperatures for the three games England is due to play in the group stages are all set to be over 20C.

In fact, while the Thursday, June 20 game against Denmark is likely to be the coldest with temperatures of 21.6C, the other two fixtures are expected to be far hotter.

England’s opener against Serbia is set to be the hottest, with a predicted mercury reading of 26.9C on Sunday, June 16. Meanwhile, for the game on Thursday, June 25, temperatures of 25.9C are expected.

With the Euros running from June 14 to July 14, the data analysis carried out suggests we could be in luck, with June 22 to 28 earmarked as traditionally one of the hottest periods in the summer.

But amid all the excitement, the same organisation has issued a stark warning. Speaking to the Daily Star, a spokesperson for Parkdean Resorts said: “As the excitement and anticipation around EURO 2024 builds, fans are set to experience not just great football but also, as our predictions show, some of the year’s best weather to date.

“While we encourage Brits to enjoy the sunshine with friends and family, it is also important to be safe in the sun. Exposure to the sun without protection poses significant risks, including sunburn and an increased risk of skin cancer. Our survey of 2,000 Brits found that knowledge around sun safety is a national problem, with 14% of Brits only applying sunscreen once a day and 12% never wearing sunscreen at all.

“Whether you are viewing the football matches in beer gardens, while on holiday, or in the garden this summer, remember to reapply an SPF of at least 30 throughout the day, wear protective clothing such as hats and sunglasses, and keep hydrated.”
