Ten Hag left sweating on Man Utd future as Ratcliffe stands agency

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is in no rush to sack Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

And it means Ten Hag could be left in limbo until later on next week before being told his fate. Ratcliffe has been holding a review of Ten Hag’s position, along with co-owner Joel Glazer, INEOS director of sport Sir Dave Brailsford and new technical director Jason Wilcox.

He is reluctant to make a snap decision, because he knows it will be one of the biggest he ever has to make in his role of club investor. A club source said: “Jim’s mantra is walking towards the right solution, not run towards the wrong solution.”

Ratcliffe has made England boss Gareth Southgate his No.1 choice to replace Ten Hag, if he decides to sack the Dutchman. But the situation is complicated, with Southgate leading England at the Euros this summer, meaning he would not be available until the end of July at the earliest.

In the meantime, United need to work on new signings ahead of the start of next season. Some reports claimed Ten Hag would be sacked immediately after the FA Cup final.

But United have refused to put a timeframe on when Ten Hag will be informed of the club’s immediate intentions. It’s understood Ratcliffe wants to have a new boss in place to succeed Ten Hag with immediate effect, if a managerial change is made.

United had their worst season in Premier League history after finishing eighth in the table. Ten Hag led United to FA Cup glory at Wembley, but Ratcliffe and his fellow bosses will not base their decision on just one game.

Meanwhile, incoming CEO Omar Berrada will start his new role at Old Trafford on July 13. Until then, Wilcox is overseeing United’s transfer business.
