I attempted Imou doorbell digicam with spectacular battery life and no month-to-month charge
Having lived in high-rise buildings for some time, security has become my number one concern when I moved to a house in the Big Smoke.
That’s when I started looking for a doorbell camera and decided to try the Imou DB60 doorbell with wire-free installation and an incredible six-month battery life.
While it’s not the cheapest on the market, the smart doorbell (was £139, now £97.99) is better than some of the leading brands as it does not require pricey subscription packages. You can pick it up from Curry’s here.

The device has a built-in wide-angle lens 5MP camera that can capture live feed and night vision at the push of a button. It also comes with a motion sensor that sends notifications to your phone when strangers walk past your driveway or delivery drivers come knock on your door.
Setting up the camera is easy – you plug in the receiver at home and pop the camera to the mounting bracket at a visible place outside and connect it to the Imou Life app. It also gives you the option of screwing the angled bracket for a 15° horizontal span and a 5° vertical tilt.
In the app, you can customise a voicemail message when someone press the doorbell. There are pre-set messages in “quick responses” that the device will read out but you can also add your voice message as options.
When someone presses the doorbell, it gives me the option to respond – it’s like picking up a video call and I can speak to them via the device or I can press “record” to capture a short video.
While I was still experimenting the features, I noticed a bit of delay in response but the issue was resolved when I adjusted the “general activity zone” in settings.
The Imou smart doorbell will only record a maximum of three-minute video when a person is detected. As it’s not a security camera, you won’t be able to see what happened at a specific time.
Once you open the live view, you are allowed to take screenshots or videos in real-time. There is also a speaker for a two-way conversation, a siren to alarm strangers and a spotlight. You can even zoom in and move the camera around for details – this is helpful if you spot anything suspicious.

The battery life is outstanding – I’ve been using it for two months and it has 54% battery remaining and there’s only been one time that the device “went offline”. But it worked again when I pressed the doorbell chime.
In general, Imou DB60 smart doorbell is an easy-to-use home security device that gives me peace of mind when I’m away from home. It also keeps my monthly expenses low thanks to the subscription-free feature.
