Young schoolgirl, man and girl are injured in knife assault

A young schoolgirl, a man and a woman have been injured in a violent knife attack early this morning.   

Police received a report at 8.06am and found a man with stab wounds and an injured primary school-aged girl and a woman in Whernside, Carlisle.  

Police have arrested a man and a woman on suspicion of attempted murder following the stabbing.

The man, in his 50s, was taken to Cumberland Infirmary with a stab wound.

The little girl is in hospital and in a stable condition. 

Police said both the 55-year-old man and the 53-year-old woman who had been arrested had been injured and were being treated in hospital.
