The reality is Keir’s a socialist… writes RISHI SUNAK

Elections are a choice and the choice at this election is clear, tax cuts with the Conservatives or £2,094 of tax rises for every working family with Labour.

However much Keir Starmer tries to deny the reality of what his policies mean, the truth is he says he’s a socialist and we know what socialists always do: take more of your money.

We Conservatives have had to take difficult decisions because of Covid. But with stability returning, inflation back to normal and the economy returning to health, we have started cutting taxes.

Our manifesto sets out how we will go further, permanently bringing down taxes for you and creating a stronger Britain.

Now, we are the party of Margaret Thatcher and Nigel Lawson, we believe in sound money. So, we know that tax cuts have to be paid for.

We will pay for them by controlling the unsustainable rise in working age welfare that this country has seen since Covid.

We will ensure that we have lower welfare so we can have lower taxes. The fact that Labour oppose this tells you everything you need to know about them: they don’t share your values. They would rather let the welfare bill balloon than cut your taxes.

I want a Britain where those who work hard keep more of their money, where people are encouraged to start a business, where a new generation know the pride and security of home ownership, where parents are supported and where our pensioners have dignity and certainty in old age.

So, we will cut the second tax on work –National Insurance – again. This means that by 2027, we will have halved it – saving someone on £35,000, more than £1,300.

This is a down payment on our plan to abolish the double tax on work entirely when economic conditions allow.

One of the engines of our economy is the graft, determination and ingenuity of the self-employed.

They embody that most Conservative of virtues: aspiration, the desire to build something, to create wealth and opportunity.

We want to encourage more people to do this, it will be good for them and good for our country.

So, we will scrap the main rate of self-employed National Insurance entirely. A tax abolished, enterprise encouraged.

We Conservatives are the party of the property-owning democracy, so we will do more to help a new generation on to the property ladder.

We will speed up planning permissions for inner-city sites and scrap defective EU laws, so we can deliver 1.6 million homes in the next Parliament: more than we have built in any Parliament for more than half a century.

We’ll make it easier for first-time buyers by ensuring that, for properties up to £425,000, stamp duty is scrapped entirely.

And our new Help to Buy scheme will provide vital assistance to those working hard to put together a deposit.

Family is the most important thing in all of our lives. So, a vote for us is a vote to do more to support families.

We’ll provide 30 hours of free childcare a week for working parents from the end of maternity leave until their children start school and we’ll end the unfairness of the current child benefit system, by moving to a household system and making sure that any family that earns less than £120,000 a year receives it.

This tax cut will be worth, on average, £1,500 to 700,000 families.

Our pensioners deserve respect. They did not get that from the last Labour government, who insulted them with a 75p increase in the state pension and hit them with Gordon Brown’s £118 billion raid on private pensions.

By contrast, we Conservatives have introduced the triple lock – boosting the value of the state pension every year.

We will now go further with the triple lock plus, ensuring that those who rely entirely on the new state pension are never caught by income tax.

Labour will not match our commitment on this. They will usher in a retirement tax for the first time in our history.

We Conservatives know what our values are: aspiration, freedom, opportunity, security. This manifesto will strengthen those values, strengthen our great country and deliver a secure future for Britain.
