World’s hottest scientist will get ‘lethal’ an infection and ‘not a lot she will do’

A biologist dubbed the “world’s hottest scientist” has revealed that she’s been struck by brutal dengue fever.

Rosie Moore said that she contracted the condition last month (May) and admitted that it can be “deadly”. She noted that there was “nothing [she] could do about it” – but despite her suffering still encouraged people to get out and “see more remote parts of the world.”

She revealed her toil in a post on Instagram, where she discussed how she first noticed symptoms when her eye was causing her agony after getting a “ton of bug bites” during a visit to South America. She said she was left “struggling to get out of bed and trying to cool herself down by any means necessary” as she fought the fever, which is contracted by humans after being bitten by mosquitos.

According to the World Health Organisation, “100–400 million infections” occur each year. In 2023, there were 7300 dengue-related deaths reported.

Rosie said she was left “downing Tylenol like no other,” and showed aggressive red spots all over her torso.

She said she was keen to “not make a big deal out of this” before she got her case diagnosed as she was heading back to the US shortly after.

But she soon woke up with a “crazy rash all over [her] body” adding it “turns out I had it [dengue] and there’s not much they can do”.

In a caption to her post, Rosie said: “There is no specific treatment for dengue, and while it can be fatal, most cases are less severe. I had many symptoms before being diagnosed such as loss of appetite (we would hike 5-12 miles a day and I was unable to get a single meal down for days), eye pain, chills, and fever.

“I was hesitant to share this because I feel like so many people are scared to travel to more remote places, but the trip was so worth it, and I would encourage anyone to get out there and see more remote places of the world.”
