Dine and dasher pictured consuming fried breakfasts, chips and cokes earlier than fleeing

A bloke and two children scoffed two fried breakfasts, five soft drinks and a milkshake before ditching a cafe without paying in the latest example of dine and dashing in the UK.

The owner of Cafe No.35 in Canterbury, Kent, is now resorting to sharing CCTV of the group, in the hope of finding the adult so he can clear his outstanding £60 debt.

On Monday afternoon (June 10) the bloke sat outside the cafe with the two children as the gorged on their food. The man then went inside and ordered food for his wife, who he said was arriving soon.

He then did a runner with the kids as the server went to the kitchen to retrieve his second order, the owner – Anna Carpenter – said.

The 55-year-old, who opened the eatery three-and-a-half years ago, described the man’s alleged ploy to Kent Online, saying her waitress felt ‘uneasy’ because of his peering.

She said: “I had two young girls working on that day and we were very busy.

“They kept trying to get my waitresses’ attention, who would then go out again and they would order more.

“My waitress said she started to feel uneasy because the man would keep peering through the window looking inside the cafe.

“He did it so often that she did feel that something wasn’t quite right and she certainly felt uncomfortable.

“It’s just one of those things and there are people out there who do this sort of thing all the time.”

Ms Carpenter said they have never been targeted by dine and dashers before, but would be thiefs have shown interest in the tip jar.

“We’re just doing the best we can to stay in business so for somebody to steal from us hurts and affects all of the staff. It’s really upsetting,” she said.
