Rishi Sunak says Princes Kate’s return is ‘great, great information’
The Prime Minister has praised “brave” Kate and said the whole country will be behind her in her recovery.
Rishi Sunak said it is “wonderful, wonderful news” to hear the Princess of Wales will attend Trooping the Colour in London on Saturday, three months after she announced her cancer diagnosis. Responding to the news at a press conference for the G7 summit in Italy, Mr Sunak said: “It’s wonderful, wonderful news. I think the whole country will be behind the Princess of Wales in her recovery.
“I saw her statement earlier, I thought it was brave, I thought it was honest and I’m sure it will bring great comfort to so many other people who are grappling with similar health issues.”
In a statement released tonight on the eve of the event, Kate said she has “good days and bad days”. She added that she “hopes to join a few public engagements over the summer” as she continues treatment for cancer “for a few more months”.

“My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months. On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home,” she said.
“I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet.”
Kate, 42, announced she would be joining her three children George, 10, Princess Charlotte, nine and Prince Louis, five, in a state carriage down The Mall for the big family moment. Prince William will take part in the military parade on horseback.
Prior to her announcement royal sources confirmed the princess had personally spoken to the King – who is also undergoing cancer treatment after being diagnosed with the disease in February – and informed him of her wish to join him and the royal family for the parade.
In March, Kate announced she had been diagnosed with cancer and was underdoing a course of “preventative chemotherapy”. She released a video statement thanking the public for their “understanding” as she recovered from surgery, explaining: “It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family. In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful.
“However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment. This of course came as a huge shock…”
