King Charles ‘not assured’ and Camilla ‘in cost’ at Trooping the Colour

‘Restless’ King Charles wasn’t ‘totally confident’ at Trooping the Colour while Queen Camilla had a much more calm demeanour, according to a body language expert.

The monarch celebrated his official birthday today (Saturday, June 15) with his wife, Prince William, Kate Middleton and the couple’s three children as they were watched by hordes of fans. The royals took to the balcony at Buckingham Palace this afternoon where they watched the annual Red Arrow flypast just after 1pm.

Body language expert Inbaal Honigman noted, however, that the King didn’t seem completely sure of himself. “He’s showing some signs of restlessness, while also being quite playful with the family around him,” she told the Daily Star for Slingo.

“Initially, he touches the railing by his side, then he moves his head from side to side, checking what’s going on around him, and he even fidgets a little bit. The King is restless at that moment.

“This shows that he doesn’t want to do anything wrong, but he is also not totally confident that he’s getting things right. […] The King is more interested in experiencing the day with his family than in trying to appear particularly composed or in control.

“His other hand, on the scabbard of his sword by his side, is clenching and releasing, so some restless energy clearly remains.”

It was a different story for Camilla, however, who Honigman said was “feeling in charge of her conduct.” “Camilla is entirely composed,” she said. “No tension is indicated in the Queen’s movements.

“Her walk is measured, which shows that she’s feeling in charge of her conduct. We observe no fidgeting, no movement of her head from side to side – she’s as peaceful as anybody can be on that balcony, under the watchful gaze of the whole world.”

Today marks King Charles’ second official birthday since coming to the throne – and the first since he was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. The monarch revealed the health issue had been discovered after he underwent a procedure to treat an enlarged prostate.

He pulled back from official duties in response to the news, but in recent weeks has been seen in the limelight more. Conversely Kate Middleton, who was also diagnosed with cancer this year, had not been seen at an public engagements for nearly six months until today.

The Princess of Wales is understood to be doing well but is “not out of the woods yet” and is still receiving preventative chemotherapy.
