Mum, 42, combating for all times in Spain after horror seizure on household vacation

A mum’s dream holiday turned into a nightmare when she collapsed and was left fighting for her life in Spain.

Stephanie Williams, 42, was enjoying a sunny getaway with her family in Alicante before she fell critically ill just hours before their flight back to Wales. The Swansea mum-of-four is now in a critical condition in a Spanish hospital, with her loved ones keeping a bedside vigil.

Disaster struck last Saturday (June 8), as Stephanie and her family were prepping for their journey home from their Costa Blanca retreat. Tragically, at around 1am, she suffered a seizure in her hotel room, leaving her family in shock, according to WalesOnline.

Her daughter Aimee described the ordeal as “unimaginable” for her young mum, who she praised as “the most selfless person in the whole world”. In a desperate bid to get her mother treatment, Aimee coordinated with relatives back in Wales to send over £3,000 so Stephanie could be admitted to a nearby Spanish hospital.

Although travel insurance has since kicked in to cover medical expenses at another facility, the initial costs for Stephanie’s numerous tests and an urgent brain operation on Monday (June 10) soared past £10,000, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Stephanie’s partner remains by her side in Alicante, and her father and brothers have rushed over to stay with her. Despite the successful operation, Stephanie is still battling for her life as she stays in a “very critical condition in intensive care”.

The family has no clue about her prognosis or how long she will have to linger in hospital.

Due to this uncertainty, the expenses of having her family nearby are escalating every day. To worsen matters, Stephanie’s mum died less than two months before, intensifying the grief for those already mourning.

Stephanie’s daughter, Aimee, and sister-in-law, Jade Wright, have initiated a Go Fund Me campaign to raise funds to aid the family during this challenging time. The campaign only started several days ago, but it has already garnered more than £15,000 from countless sympathetic donors who were touched by Stephanie’s devastating story.

Despite being back in Wales now, Aimee stated: “Whilst she is being supported in Alicante, I just want to try and do something to help support my family whilst I’m back in Wales. My mum is only 42 and me and my brothers and sister need her to wake up and fight to get better so she can come home to us.”

Stephanie was described by her daughter as ‘selfless’

She characterised her mum as the most selfless person ever, always prioritising others before herself. Now, Aimee implores for help when her mother needs it the most.

“She’s worked as a nurse herself, a midwife and then a bereavement midwife supporting families. I want to raise as much money as I can to relieve the financial pressures on my family. I would just like to thank you in advance for taking the time to read my story and for any money you can spare.

“Although this is a huge amount, my mum is currently self-employed so is therefore having no income whilst in intensive care. The road to recovery will be long and I want to ensure a family member can be with mum in Alicante at all times so she isn’t on her own.”
