Seagull ‘Steven Seagal’ targets vacationers in launching assaults from similar spot

A seagull in a Welsh seaside town has become famed for launching attacks on unsuspecting tourists from the same exact spot.

Nicknamed Steven Seagal by the folk of Tenby, Wales, the brazen bird has become somewhat of a loved fixture in the town for its antisocial, but very funny, antics.

The bold Steven Seagal, who is assumed male, has a favourite spot, a perch on a wall on St George’s Street, where he like to pray on tourists, swiping food straight out of their hands as they walk by. And it appears he’s been doing it for years — the video below shows Steven Seagal nicking a sausage roll from a passerby in 2019.

Jane Riley, who works at the Pembrokeshire Pasty and Pie Company across from Steven’s favourite hang, said: “We’ve got a church over the road and it’s basically on the corner of the gate and it still sits there and waits until you pass and he’s on you.

“It could be the same one because he’s quite clever. We watch him waiting there and he’s hoping the people passing don’t spot him.”

Jan told WaleOnline that many customers return after Steven swiped their fresh pasty from them “quite regularly”.

“People come back and say: ‘You’ll never guess what, he’s taken my pasty,’” she said.

“And it’s cost them a lot of money for a pasty because they’ve paid for two and the seagull’s had one. It happens quite often.”

One Tenby local, Tyler Mears, recalled once she ended up paying two lots of £4.50 for ice cream after Steven swooped. “I wanted ice cream so much I went back into the shop and ate it in the corner,” she said.

Tourists even come to Tenby to spot the rascal at work

Jonathan May at the Three Mariners Pub, which is directly opposite Steven’s plinth, said: “He’s there right now. Funnily enough someone is photographing him as we speak. People love him. He’s the most famous seagull in history.”

A tourist told WalesOnline she loved Steven so much, she’s decorated her front door in homage to him, and visits Tenby every summer to see him.

Emma Vickers said: “It’s completely based on the dude who pinches pasties and the memories we have of our time here. He will keep us company until we’re back next year.”
