Thorpe Park curler coaster breaks with folks caught at prime in horror incident

Thrill-seekers at Thorpe Park found themselves stranded at the peak of Hyperia, touted as the “fastest and tallest” ride in the UK.

The roller coaster, which only opened last month, had to be shut down less than a day later due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

Today, riders are stuck at the top with no way down. The ride has been closed and the surrounding area evacuated while staff and experts work to free those trapped on the popular attraction.

“The ride has been opening and closing all morning and they have evacuated the entire ride area,” added the park-goer.

The issue has sparked chatter on social media. One user posted on X: “Hyperia stuck again with people on it. Been there for over an hour now. One of the staff making their way up to give them a bit of lunch.”

Another chimed in: “Hyperia been stuck on lift hill for 15 mins now.”

It remains uncertain when the stranded riders will be rescued.

Last month, thousands flocked to the theme park to celebrate the launch of the new rollercoaster.

However, less than a day later, the park announced that Hyperia would be closed until at least May 29 due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

Thorpe Park’s latest adrenaline-pumping ride, Hyperia, is being hailed as the UK’s tallest, fastest and most weightless rollercoaster. The park boasts: “Towering above the iconic Thorpe Park skyline stands an all-new marvel of engineering: Rising high above the landscape at an extraordinary 236ft, this magnificent masterpiece of steel beckons Thrillseekers from far and wide to ‘Find Their Fearless’.”

“With over 995 meters of twisted track and speeds exceeding 80mph, inspired by the legendary daughter of an ancient River God who dared to defy her fears, Hyperia is not just a rollercoaster – it’s a tribute to the powerful potential within each of us.

“You’ll feel weightless, fearless, invincible.”
