Tribe chief hits again at ‘X-rated habit’ claims after getting web

A man at the helm of a remote tribe that never before had access to the internet has hit back at claims its people became addicted to X-rated content as soon as they could get their hands on it.

The Maruba people, who live in a remote area in Brazil, beside the Ituí River, were finally hooked up to the online world and all that comes with it thanks to Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite-internet service last year.

After receiving the gift the tribesmen, who live in communal huts have been familiarising themselves with the wonders of the web ever since. But the elders have not been impressed with all that comes with this saying they are worried porn is making young men more sexually aggressive.

Alfredo Marubo, leader of the villages, has been worried over the amount of adult content available to his people, saying he’s worried they are “going to want to try” what they see portrayed in pornography.

The most vocal critic of the move also claimed that some elders had observed young men becoming more sexually aggressive. Fellow leader Enoque Marubo has however hit back at claims they’ve become ‘addicted’ to pornography.

He said the suggestions were “fake news” and “unfounded”. In the video, posted to Instagram earlier this month, he remarked: “I am here to repudiate the fake news that has been circulating around the world in the last week, alleging that the entry of the internet into our communities has resulted in addiction to pornography.

These statements are unfounded, false and only reflect a biased ideological current that disrespects our autonomy and identity.” He said he wanted to clarify these were “unfounded lies” and said the internet was an “important tool” for the people.
