Alan Shearer leaves Gary Lineker in matches with cheeky Micah Richards jibe

Alan Shearer couldn’t resist a cheeky swipe at Micah Richards during a hilarious chat about Gary Lineker’s culinary disaster on their podcast.

The banter was flying on The Rest is Football podcast as Lineker, Richards, and Shearer reminisced about touching down in Berlin for the Euros kick-off last week. They recalled how Lineker, the ex-England forward, fancied himself as a chef and decided to whip up a feast on Friday night but it didn’t go quite to plan.

Richards ribbed the former Leicester star over his bumbling efforts to feed a dozen people, with Lineker attempting to impress with a vegetarian extravaganza. But the kitchen capers hit a snag, with Richards claiming Lineker was ‘floundering’ before the Match of the Day host pointed the finger at his less-than-stellar cooking gear.

Cue a smoke alarm fiasco that had Newcastle icon Shearer quipping: “I wasn’t sure what the alarm was, was it because of the fire alarm or because Micah opened his wallet.” The quip then sent the trio into fits of laughter.

Amidst the back-and-forth between Lineker and Richards, footage rolls of the smoke alarm blaring while Lineker struggles with the meal in Berlin, and Richards throws a jibe at him, saying: “You were floundering for a good 30 minutes”, reports the Mirror. As BBC host, he tried to rationalise the situation: “I’ve got new equipment here and the oven doesn’t function”, only for Richards to retort sarcastically: “Oh so you’re blaming your tools, interesting.”

Not done yet, Lineker added: “I was struggling the fire alarm went off three times because we couldn’t work it out.” This isn’t the first time their podcast has sparked attention during the Euros, with Lineker and Richards recently deliberating on the BBCITV rivalry in the latest episode.

Match of the Day’s frontman closed in at his rivals with a precisely planned remark that’ll fuel the enduring competition between the two networks. Upon questioning by Richards about the competitiveness, he discounted any animosity referring to his peers and mates at ITV, stating: “We do like ITV though don’t we? With Keano (Roy Keane) and Wrighty (Ian Wright) we don’t need to have that rivalry.”

Lineker concurred and had nothing but praise for his long-time competitors, albeit not without delivering a savage hit to ensure the feud between the stations remains as intense as ever. Commenting on ITV, the ex-Everton forward said: “They’re really good,” before delivering the punchline: “English television does football very well, ITV do it brilliantly we do it slightly better.”
