‘Bellingham may be too large for his boots – he is talking within the third particular person’

I’m not suggesting Jude Bellingham is getting too big for his boots.

But having inspired England’s opening Group C win over Serbia, the Real Madrid sensation started talking in the third person when he spoke to media afterwards in Gelsenkirchen. Bellingham admitted it was pretty good being, err, Jude Bellingham.

It must also be difficult being Bellingham, considering how much attention he now gets. After just one game, bookies have now installed him as 6/1 favourite to go on and be named ‘Player of the Tournament’.

But if he’s not careful, the 20-year-old will find himself struggling to avoid becoming the victim of his own remarkable success.

He’s writing his own scripts, but these shouldn’t include being himself, talking about himself.

More travel chaos in Germany has left supporters seething.

This time it was the England and Serbian fans who felt the full force of the laughable rail network here at Euro 2024. The main platform at Gelsenkirchen station was a mass of people up to tree hours after the game between the two nations had finished.

This was due to the fact some trains were late, while others didn’t even turn up at all. What a shambles.

It might be best to work out alternative modes of travel. But one option not available to most, is the manner in which England fan Russell Cook gets from A to B.

Cook, AKA ‘Hardest Geezer”, thinks on his feet when it comes to travel. Quite literally. The 27-year-old from West Sussex chose to side-step all the chaos by running from Wembley to Gelsenkirchen.

He left London on June 11 and made it for kick-off inside the Arena AufSchalke. He filmed the crowd singing ‘Sweet Caroline’ in the stadium as they celebrated England’s victory.

Russell said: “One-nil win secured, back on road in the morning. Up the boys, come on.”

England face a race against time to get Luke Shaw fit

England’s medical staff are working overtime in a bid to get Luke Shaw fit for the remaining two games of the group stages.

Instead of joining the 12 members of the squad which trained in Blankenhain on Monday, the Manchester United did a recovery session at the team’s hotel with those who were involved against Ukraine.

Which suggests Shaw is not close enough fitness wise to be involved when the Three Lions face Denmark in Frankfurt on Thursday. The left back has not kicked a ball in after since damaging his hamstring in a club game against Luton back in February.

England will be hoping he’s back for their group stage fixtures

Travelling around Germany in an electric car can be quite challenging. At least it can be for someone who has no idea how to change a plug, let alone stick one in his motor to avoid the risk of being left on the hard shoulder of the motorway.

But despite the long and bitter history that exists between England and Germany, the locals have put such differences to one side, to become helpful hosts indeed.

This has even included paying for charge for a complete stranger’s vehicle on their own debit cards, in return for being reimbursed with Euros. Fair play to them.
