Football fan arrives at resort in Germany for Euros 2024 and makes grim discovery

A footie fan was left with a series of hotel nightmares after arriving at his accommodation to find his bed was made of cardboard.

Taking to Twitter with his customer service complaints, user RoryB96 shared the “absolute shambles of a situation” which saw him and his mates wandering the streets of Germany late at night in search of suitable digs. Their first property was dubbed an “absolute mess” by the football enthusiast, who had jetted off to watch Scotland compete in the Euro 2024 tournament.

However, their trip took a nasty turn as they were forced to pack up their belongings and hunt for alternative lodgings, spending hours trying to sort out their disastrous experience at the first property. And according to Rory, things only went downhill from there.

He tweeted: “Not normally one to post customer service complaints on Twitter but me and the boys are in Germany for @EURO2024 and wait till you see the absolute shambles of a situation @bookingcom put us in last night. So at around half past 8 yesterday we turned up at the original property we booked through @bookingcom and the place was an absolute mess.

“One of the beds was made out of cardboard and also held together by duct tape. The 2nd bed was a sofa bed that was broken and disgusting.” After three hours on the phone, the lads were sent packing to a second property which seemed just as grim as the first. “Once we arrived, we were STUNNED by what we found.

“@bookingcom had sent us to a dungeon that must have been some sort of abandoned medical facility as there was hospital beds and industrial equipment lying around the entrance. We made our way into the property and we’re greeted by more industrial equipment, exposed chemicals, exposed cables and exposed pipes and to top it all off an axe that looked like something out of a murder film. The whole place had the vibes of a human trafficking horror film.

“After all of the above within the first 6 feet of the property we made our way through the rest of the gaff and continued to find hazard after hazard including access to a generator room. We got to the other end of the property and there was a serious smell of damp.”

To add insult to injury, the front door wouldn’t lock and they ended up shelling out £2,000 for the accommodation. Rory later shared that they managed to secure a decent place in Cologne for the remaining four days. Users were left debating whether Rory and his mates should have stuck with the cardboard bed accommodation rather than endure the damp horrors of their replacement. One commented: “I’d have stayed in the first one after seeing the second place.”

Booking.com responded: “This is not the experience we would want for anyone booking a stay on our platform and are in touch with the customer, so we can look into what happened and to make sure they are properly supported.”
