King Frederik of Denmark needs his nation ‘nice luck’ within the Euros

King Frederik X of Denmark and his children Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent posed in football shirts ahead of Denmark’s first Euros 2024 match on Sunday.

Taking to Instagram, the monarch, 56, wished the team ‘great luck’ in their match against Slovenia from the Fredensborg Palace gardens.

The father-of-four proudly smiled next to his youngest children, twins Josephine and Vincent, 13, and wrote: ‘In a little while it starts, and at our place we are just about ready for Denmark’s match start.

‘My family and I wish @herrerlandsholdet a great luck for the European Championships.’

Josephine was glowing as she smiled for the photograph and styled her football jersey with an elegant pearl necklace.

Meanwhile, her twin brother Prince Vincent, appeared cheerful as he smiled for the group shot. 

Frederik looked every inch the proud father as he held his arms around his two youngest children. 

Despite the family’s hope for Denmark’s success, the team drew with Slovenia, who are ranked 57th in FIFA’s standings. 

Denmark’s next match will see the team take on England on Thursday – a match that the Prince of Wales is expected to attend.  

‘The Prince of Wales, president of the Football Association, will attend the UEFA Euro 2024 group stage match between England and Denmark at Frankfurt Arena on Thursday 20th June,’ the Palace said in a recent statement. 

Queen Mary of Denmark was absent from the family photograph, in addition to the pair’s older children, Crown Prince Christian, 18, and Princess Isabella, 17. 

Mary’s absence comes amid rumours of marital struggles since the King was pictured enjoying an evening out in Madrid with Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova last year. 

The publication of the photos resulted in Genoveva, 47, issuing a statement denying a romantic relationship between herself and the royal and slamming the ‘malicious’ rumours.

It comes after King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark put on a united front as they marked the 175th anniversary of the Constitution in Copenhagen this month.

Mary arrived at Holmen’s Church looking typically chic in a bright pink long-sleeved dress with a complimentary orange hat.

The Australian-born Queen’s dress featured a belted waist with gold brooch and voluminous balloon sleeves. The royal, 52, styled her brown hair in an elegant updo to reveal her glittering flower stud earrings.

The father-of-four meanwhile donned a crisp navy suit with a maroon tie for the event, otherwise known as Grundlovsdag, celebrating the day the Constitution of Denmark was first signed in 1853.

For the celebrations, Queen Margrethe of Denmark, 84, who abdicated the throne in January, and her sister, Princess Benedikte, 80, also joined the reigning couple for the occasion.

Margrethe – who reigned Denmark for 52 years – put on a chic display in an all-white ensemble – complete with a wide-brimmed hat not dissimilar in style from her daughter-in-law’s.

Continuing the display of high fashion, Princess Benedikte opted for a deep purple overcoat and an off-white mid-length dress with floral patterning.

Accompanying senior members of the Danish royal family to the event was the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, 46.

Once inside the church, the royal family took their places in the front row for the service, celebrating the Constitution of Denmark, which outlines the country’s democratic values.

It comes after King Frederik and Queen Mary appeared on the Amalienborg Palace balcony for the monarch’s birthday.

The father-of-four celebrated his first birthday since he ascended the throne on 26 May and greeted crowds of royal fans who had gathered outside the residence.

For the occasion, Mary opted for a bright pink long-sleeved dress, which perfectly matched her mother-in-law’s fuchsia frock.

Her dress featured a ruffled drop hem and voluminous gathered sleeves. The royal styled her brown hair in loose waves and wore an elegant gold bangle. 

Frederik and Mary were joined on the balcony by their four children Crown Prince Christian, 18, Princess Isabella, 17, and twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, 13.

Isabella cut a sophisticated figure in a blue floral printed wrap dress with balloon sleeves.

Meanwhile, her younger sister Josephine looked elegant in a light blue-and-white floral knee-length dress with sheer sleeves.

The family-of-six were joined on the balcony by Queen Margrethe, 84, who abdicated in January following a 52-year reign. The mother-of-two looked glamorous in a bright pink midi dress with short sleeves.

Sweeping her hair up into her signature bun, Margrethe showcased a dazzling flower-shaped brooch.
