FIRST LOOK at Millie Gibson in Forsyte in first function since Doctor Who

Millie Gibson looked radiant as she transformed in Irene Forsyte for the new reimagining of The Forsyte Saga – in her first major role since Doctor Who

The actress, 19, who has just wrapped filming for season two of Ncuti Gatwa‘s Doctor Who generation, is pictured in a wedding dress for a first look at her new role, in a MailOnline exclusive photo.

Millie is set to portray the iconic character of Irene, who is known for her scandalous ways when it comes to men.

In the first picture of Millie as Irene, she sports copper locks styled in tight curls and a button-down Jacquard print wedding dress with a veil, while holding a bouquet of flowers.

Irene beams at the camera as her husband Soames [Joshua Orpin] adoringly gazes down at her.

The Forsyte Saga, based on John Galsworthy’s novels, is currently filming in the UK and Italy and follows the lives and loves of the wealthy Forsyte family.

Based on the Nobel Prize-winning novels detailing love, loyalty, ambition and betrayal, The Forsyte Saga is written by acclaimed British screenwriter Debbie Horsfield and produced by Mammoth Screen, the team behind global television hit Poldark.

The ensemble cast also includes Francesca Annis, Jack Davenport, Tom Durant Pritchard, Jamie Flatters, Danny Griffin, Susan Hampshire, Owen Igiehon, Tuppence Middleton, Stephen Moyer, Josette Simon and Eleanor Tomlinson.

A UK broadcaster is yet to be announced for the series.

This will be the third TV adaptation of The Forsyte Saga in 60 years as John’s portrait of a wealthy British family in 1880s London is recreated once again.

This latest rendition will be made into a six-part season based on the 1920s novels with the hope it will become a returning series.

The BBC 1967 adaptation was watched by audiences of up to 18 million and the 2002 version on ITV featured a stellar cast including Damian Lewis and Gina McKee.

The latest reimagining is housed at Mammoth Screen, the ITV Studios-backed British production company behind Parade’s End, The Serpent, and Victoria.

Joining Millie in the all-star cast is BAFTA winning Francesca Annis who is taking on the role of the formidable Forsyte matriarch Ann.

Meanwhile True Blood star Stephen Moyer will Ann’s eldest son, Jolyon Senior, who is also head of the family stockbroking firm Forsyte & Co.

Completing the cast is The Morning Show star, Jack Davenport, Joshua Orpin, who is best known for his role in Titans and Tom Durant Pritchard from This Is Going To Hurt.

Despite featuring only British actors the series will be aired on US network PBS.

Doctor Who star Millie, who appeared in Coronation Street as Kelly Neelan between 2019 and 2022, announced she’d be stepping into the role of Ruby Sunday in November 2022, during a special appearance at the 2022 Children in Need fundraiser.

She branded the opportunity as a ‘dream come true’ before making her debut in the 2023 Christmas special.

It was reported at the start of this year that Millie would only appear in a handful of episodes before being replaced by Varada Sethu, 32, who was said to have already started filming.

But now the BBC have announced Gibson and Sethu will both appear in the 2025 series alongside Ncuti.
