Woman tells courtroom singer filmed himself ‘sexually assaulting her’

  • Wild – real name Ross Davidson – is on trial at Wood Green Crown Court

A woman told a court of her ‘disgust’ when she found out former Spandau Ballet singer Ross William Wild had ‘filmed himself sexually assaulting her as she slept’.

The 36-year-old, whose real name is Ross Davidson, wanted sex up to six times a night and forced himself on women who refused him, it is claimed.

He is accused of a series of sex offences against five women and raping three of them over a decade between 2013 and 2023.

Jurors heard the Scotsman was ‘a bit of a sex symbol’ after starring in the West End musical ‘We Will Rock You’ a decade ago and became lead singer in Spandau Ballet in 2018.

But the prosecution claim Davidson had ‘a darker side’ and ‘expected to get sex on demand’.

Wood Green Crown Court heard how the singer had ‘a kink’ of wanting to have sex with sleeping women and allegedly filmed himself fondling women while they slept, whilst also enjoying role-playing rape scenarios.

On Monday, jurors watched a recorded interview the second alleged victim gave to police. Davidson is accused of filming himself touching the woman’s breast while she slept.

Explaining the alleged assault to jurors earlier prosecutor Richard Hearnden said the video lasts for about a minute and a half: ‘She is wearing a blue choker around her neck but is otherwise unclothed.

‘The camera focuses on the breast for a while, getting closer until it fills the entire screen.

A man’s hand then appears and squeezes the woman’s breast, rubbing his forefinger over the nipple.’

Asked by a police officer about the video the woman said: ‘It disgusts me.

‘I remember that he (Davidson) confessed to me his fantasy to sleep with someone who is asleep and for them to wake up during an orgasm, which is really egocentric.’

She said that she must have taken drugs before the video was taken.

‘I am a light sleeper. I don’t remember that so I know I was on drugs and like not sober.’

She told the court that they had smoked joints together.

She said that while Davidson had sent her a text while he was at the Cannes Film Festival.

‘He insulted me. He said that I was like a hairy monkey.

‘I had a lot of panic attacks, about three times a day. My friends couldn’t recognise me. I was like a ghost.’

Charlotte Newell, KC, defending Davidson, asked the woman if she was aware that Davidson had ADHD.

She said: ‘He told me. He has a busy mind…I didn’t have all the information. At the time it felt like he didn’t have much patience.’

Davidson, of Finchley, north London, denies three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, one count of voyeurism, one count of intimidation and one of controlling behaviour, between 2013 and 2023.

He replaced Tony Hadley as Spandau Ballet’s lead singer in 2018 after playing Elvis Presley in the hit West End musical Million Dollar Quartet, alongside the band’s bassist Martin Kemp.

The trial continues.
