The shocking news comes as he is set to resume the second leg of his ‘Back to Reggaeton’ concert tour on August 7 in Oakland, California, the first of 18 shows, before ending in Belmont Park, New York, on September 15. He is also set to hold several concerts in Puerto Rico later this year.

Omar, one of the genre’s pioneers, was showered with support by the music industry and fans.

‘Let’s go champ! God is good!’ wrote Tito El Bambino, who had Omar as a backup singer at the beginning of his career while forming a duo with Hector El Father.

‘Amen my bro (.) I hope you recover soon,’ reggaeton producers Luny Tunes added.

‘We love you,’ Cuban reggaeton duo Gente de Zona said. ‘See you very soon with God’s favor.’

Former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres added: ‘DON! God does not abandon us … ever. God is good … Always. Strength and faith.’

On Saturday, Omar appeared upbeat in an Instagram video clip of a recent audition for backup dancers for new series of concerts.

‘The most special thing about today’s auditions is seeing that there are people who want to dare to dream with me,’ he said. ‘Thank you to each of you who gave your all on the dance floor! This second stage of the tour comes with everything.’

Known as the ‘King of Reggaeton,’ Omar has won 17 Billboard Latin Music Awards, three Latin Grammy awards and one Billboard Music award since breaking into the music business in the 2000s. He also played the role of ‘Rico Santos’ in the Fast & Furious franchise.

His first studio album in 2003, The Last Don, was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. His next project, King of Kings, became the highest ranking reggaeton full-length album in the top 10 US charts.

Omar released his seventh studio album, Forever King, in 2023 and followed up with a 20-date tour across the United States and Canada that ran from March 7 to April 21.
