‘Kane is unimaginable – you needn’t query him, he will rating objectives’

Eberechi Eze reckons the critics are mad to question England captain Harry Kane.

Kane’s first half goal in the disappointing 1-1 Euro 2024 draw with Denmark saw him become the leading scorer at a major tournament for England with 13. But the Bayern Munich striker vanished from the game, before being hauled off with 20 minutes remaining.

Fears are growing that Kane, who missed the end of the Bundesliga season with a back problem, is not 100% fit. There are even calls for him to be dropped for the final Group C game against Slovenia in Cologne on Tuesday.

But Eze believes Kane remains one the best forwards on the planet. He said: “Harry is an incredible player, and always does his job for the team.

“You guys (media) probably look too much into that kind of stuff, but a player like him, you don’t really need to question him. You know he’s going to work for the team. He’s going to put in performances and score goals. That’s the type of player he is.”

England find themselves facing an avalanche of criticism for failing to beat the Danes. But Eze has hit back to insist no-one is panicking in the Three Lions camp.

He added: “We’re very calm. Of course, we want to put in performances that we know we’re capable of, but this is what happened at the last tournament and no one remembers it when you reach the latter stages.

“We’re staying calm, we’re keeping positive and we know there are more levels to go. Tournament football is a rollercoaster. As long as you stay calm and positive, you’ll be fine.”
