Fans suppose they noticed Shearer having fun with Scotland’s Euro 2024 elimination

Fans believe that they saw Alan Shearer enjoying Scotland’s exit from Euro 2024.

Scotland suffered a heartbreaking elimination from the tournament on Sunday night as they lost 1-0 to Hungary, with Kevin Csoboth scoring in the tenth minute of stoppage time at the end of the second half.

As Scotland’s elimination was confirmed, former England international Shearer was seen smiling in the BBC Sport studio.

Scotland’s campaign had got off to a woeful start as they were thrashed 5-1 by hosts Germany in the opening game of the tournament.

Following that, Steve Clarke’s side then drew 1-1 against Switzerland prior to their defeat to Hungary.

However, Shearer did appear to have some sympathy for Scotland as he expressed his belief that they were denied a ‘stonewall’ penalty in the 79th minute against Hungary.

Scotland appealed for a penalty after Stuart Armstrong was brought down by Willi Orban.

However, the referee waved play on, much to Shearer’s surprise.

Speaking after the game on on BBC Sport, Shearer said: ‘I thought the referee gave a terrible decision when Scotland should have had a penalty. For me it was a penalty all day..’

‘Clear penalty for me. I think the assistant had a great view. It’s a terrible challenge. He gets caught and takes him out. His right knee on to his calf. Clearly.

‘That for me is a clear, clear penalty. I think that is a clear and obvious error. Clearly he’s taken him down.’

David Moyes agreed with Shearer that Scotland should have been given a penalty and described Orban’s challenge as ‘reckless’.

Moyes said:  ‘I think that’s a penalty kick as well,’ he said. ‘That’s a reckless challenge from the defender. We were all shouting here that VAR will at least check that.’
