Two males allegedly ‘raped drunk teenager, 19,’ in a churchyard

A court has heard how two men allegedly sexually assaulted and raped a drunk teenager in a churchyard after the girl became separated from her friends.

The 19-year-old was on a night out in Helston, Cornwall, in July last year when she became separated from her friends.

Prosecutor Jason Beal said the teenager then bumped into Calvin Rosevear, 40, and  Joe Skewes, also 40. Less less than 30 minutes later she ended up alone with them in the churchyard.

Mr Beal said the victim was ‘drunk, vulnerable and taken advantage of by these two men.

‘In short she did not consent to what happened.’

Mr Beal said that Rosevear and Skewes – not only claim that she did consent but was a ‘willing and enthusiastic participant.’

The jury at Truro Crown Court heard that Skewes stared at her breasts and told her she was fit.

Rosevear then asked her if she had had a threesome – which the victim said she had not – and Skewes pulled one of her breasts out of her top.

The two men engaged in sexual assaults in the dark churchyard after removing her underwear – and the incident only stopped when a couple walked through the yard and challenged them.

Skewes told the couple ‘she wanted it’, and Rosevear said: ‘She was up for it.’

When they were later arrested, Rosevear told police he ‘only touched her boobs’ and said she was ‘upbeat and flirty’ and said she was ‘up for a bit of fun.’

Skewes said he could not believe it when Rosevear asked her if she would like a threesome and she said ‘yes’ and said the encounter was consensual.

Rosevear, of Mullion, Cornwall, denies rape and sexual assault and Skewes, of Helston, denies three charges of sexual assault and one count of assault by penetration.

Their trial continues and is due to last all week.
