Collymore charges England gamers with embarrassing 2/10 rating – then deletes publish

Stan Collymore has slammed England after they produced a snoozefest in their final Euro 2024 group stage clash.

Gareth Southgate’s side almost sent the crowd to sleep as they drew 0-0 with Slovenia at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne. And posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, after the game, former Liverpool and Aston Villa star Collymore pulled no punches when rating their performances.

In a now deleted post, Collymore slammed England’s players – rating captain and Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane as a 2/10. Real Madrid and Arsenal favourites Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka were both awarded 3/10, while Liverpool ace Trent Alexander-Arnold’s replacement for the night, Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, was given a four after being subbed at half-time.

In two follow-up posts, Collymore fumed at England’s performance. The ex-Nottingham Forest striker said: “Not much to assuage criticism. Next game, don’t care if we win or lose, [I] want to see [Anthony] Gordon, [Cole] Palmer wide for Saka and [Phil] Foden.

“The former two take players on, it’s that simple. Too much over passing, not enough adventure. That’s just truth. An outlier in a tournament of adventure.”

Collymore, who played three times for England without scoring, then added: “Not a criticism but a fact. We must have players willing to at least attempt to go past an opponent. You do and a world of fun opens up.

“Most teams in this tournament have at least one, but we’re passing everything in front of Slovenia…Cole Palmer. More intent and ambition in five mins than any England player in the tournament so far.

“Beautiful. Give the kid the f***ing ball!”

Gareth Southgate was impressed with England’s performance

England limped through to the Round of 16 with the result – and they will now face one of the third placed teams on Sunday (June 30). Southgate didn’t see much fault with his side’s performance on Tuesday evening.

“I thought we were much improved with the ball,” he said. “We created some good openings. At the moment it’s hard work for us – we’re not quite getting that break in front of goal.

“The boys who came on had a really good impact on the game, and we had the discipline to keep a clean sheet, which meant we won the group. I understand some of the reactions, but it’s a strange environment we’re play in…”
