Daniel Dubois declare he’ll finish Anthony Joshua’s period by delivering large upset win

Daniel Dubois insists he will end Anthony Joshua’s era in the sport by delivering a huge upset on September 21.

The Londoner was elevated to IBF heavyweight champion on Tuesday after Oleksandr Usyk relinquished the belt due to his contracted rematch with Tyson Fury.

Dubois, 26, will now defend his title against Joshua, 34, at Wembley Stadium in a huge fight.

Dubois was just a teenager when the pair sparred at GB Boxing in Sheffield before he turned professional seven years ago.

A Dubois win would be a huge upset

Olympic gold medallist Joshua was already a world champion back then but now Dubois insists this will be a passing of the torch moment.

Dubois said: “I was there in Sheffield trying to get on the Olympic team and he was already on there pushing on.

“It was all good up there, sparring with the best and mixing it with them, I have nothing but good memories from my time with Team GB, I was young, only 17. It was just a good path.

“I could see back then that he was a great champion but every great beginning has an end. And I am here to take the baton and the throne.”

Both men share defeats by Oleksandr Usyk while Dubois also lost to Joe Joyce earlier in his career.

But he’s shown resolve to rebuild and got the interim title after beating Filip Hrgovic on the back of stopping Jarrell Miller.

Dubois added: “My career has been resurrected so I am on the road to redemption, I want everything kept positive and I want to keep these good things going.”
