TikTok sleuth enlisted to assist Jay Slater’s household in seek for lacking Brit

TikTok sleuths have been drafted in to help with the desperate search for missing Brit teenager Jay Slater – despite advice from an ex-cop for “armchair detectives” to stop.

Jay, 19, from Lancashire, was reported missing in Tenerife more than a week ago (June 17) after he called his friend Lucy, telling her he was lost in a rural area of the island with only 1% battery left on his phone.

His last known location was half a mile north of Masca village. Despite ongoing efforts by emergency workers, including the Civil Guard, mountain rescue team and fire crews, the challenging terrain of the Rural de Teno park is proving difficult to search.

And it has now been revealed that TikTok-loving sleuths are flying out to help, as the search reaches day 12. According to The Telegraph, Paul Arnott, 29. has been in Tenerife already searching for Jay – unofficially and without Guardia Civil backing – with the family now officially turning to him for help.

He said: “I’m meeting the family today (yesterday). I’ve been speaking with (Jay’s friend) Brad’s mum, Rachel. They wanted to bring me food but I said no. They said they wanted to meet me. They said they’re really proud of what I’m doing.”

And this was corroborated by Jay’s mum Debbie, who told The Telegraph: “I have every faith in them [the police] down on the ground and the amazing searches they are carrying out along with more amazing guys up there.

“I can’t thank Paul Arnott enough, also Callum Rahim (another TikTok creator) and his friends for working alongside with the search and rescue teams. Myself, well you know the state of my mental health and my paranoia, you saw it first hand. As a family, we are in a living nightmare.

“We have no further updates other than Jay is still missing and we are just ignoring the social media side of things. Just pray for Jay please.”

This comes just 24 hours after former Northumbria Police chief constable Sue Sim took to Sky News to hit out at the myriad of Facebook groups and social media posts in various places set up purely to either “help” find the 19-year-old or to make fun of it.

Sim told Niall Paterson: “Please do not spend time putting things onto social media. Please do not try and hamper this investigation in any way.

“If you have genuine intelligence or evidence as to where Jay might be phone your local police. They will be able to get in touch with the Guardia Civil, and they will pass any intelligence onto that organisation. The worst thing people can do, sitting at home in their armchairs, is to speculate about what might have happened.”
