‘Scumbag’ chocolate thief launches ‘I do not rob grannies’ rant after shoplifting

Stunned shoppers filmed a thief as he stuffed KitKats, Bounty and Twirl bars into a holdall.

When challenged, the brazen shoplifter tried to justify his actions by muttering: “I don’t rob houses, I don’t rob grannies.”

He then signed off with, “Good bye, God bless you”, before walking out of the store without paying. It was just the latest shocking example of the shoplifting free-for-all sweeping UK shops.

A video of the raid was posted on the Next Door website with the comment: “Five/six scumbags got off the train at Kenley and raided the Co-op. Staff didn’t even bother calling the police.”

Local resident George Catten, 54, said: “They were in and out and back on the train long before the police would ever get there.” While Liela Ali said: “It frightens me that people are so blatant and they have no fear of the law.”
